8th workshop: HANDS ON BAMBOOTECTURE
The workshop “Hands On Bambootecture” / “Hands On Campus fu(rni)ture” is the continuation of long-term collaboration between The Ethiopian Institute of Technology in Mekelle, School of Architecture and Urban Planning and architectural studio Jakub Cigler Architekti – JCA. Exactly with its division for the sustainable architecture within the human commitment unlimitedJCA.
The workshop is an intensive and playful approach to explore the lowcost (bamboo) design and how the architectural tools can be used to shape public interest offering an unique eye opening experience with hands on realisation with the real result and impact on the campus every day life… The campus itself will become the archi-laboratory…
The course gives special emphasis to the local context, the bamboo potential, cost minimization, affordability, sustainability, replicability, material selection, flexibility, user simplicity, effective installation technologies… The focus is on elemental design in architecture and furniture design.
The focus on bamboo was chosen and conducted in accordance with the open International Bamboo Construction Competition (IBCC2019). The objective is to stimulate students interest and accompany their initial ideas, so that they can develop a competitive design.
The workshop has two parts: the hands-on (with in-field survey) and the concept design.
